The former president's visit will be delayed

Reuters news service says that the arrival of former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to the island will be delayed for another two weeks.

The former president was scheduled to visit the island today. However, Reuters news agency says that Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will stay in Thailand until the first week of next September.

The report states that the former president will visit the island even before that if the security is confirmed.

The Reuters news agency mentioned that the high costs of staying in Thailand have caused the ex-president's trip to Sri Lanka to be hastened.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has informed President Ranil Wickramasinghe that Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa should also be entitled to the privileges and facilities provided by law for a former president.
