A proposal to increase MP medical insurance up to 10 lakhs



It has been proposed to the House Committee that the annual medical insurance for parliamentarians should be increased from the existing 2 lakh rupees to 10 lakh rupees.

An amount of 80,000 rupees is spent as the basic amount for medical insurance of 2 lakh per year for each MP.

Meanwhile, in order to make the medical insurance 10 lakhs, it is stated that the gove ment should spend an additional amount of nearly one hundred and thirty thousand rupees for each MP.

However, under the current economic situation in the country, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has decided to postpone this proposal for a few months.
