The Department of Meteorology says that the south-east Bay of Bengal and the low pressure area which was adjacent to it, have moved towards the north-west with a heavy westerly.
Currently, it is said to be in the South-Central Bay of Bengal.
This system will develop into a depression during the next 12 hours moving west northwestwards.
The department also announced that there is a high possibility of this reaching the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast.
In addition to this, the northe , north-central and easte provinces will occasionally get 40-50kmh strong winds as well as some rain may occur in northe , north-central and easte provinces.
It is also said that there is mainly rainless weather in the rest of the island.
