Justice Minister explains the process of presidential pardon to Ranjan

Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa says that former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake should be released by President Ranil Wickramasinghe on presidential pardon.
Speaking to the media in Colombo, the minister said that if the former MP apologizes for the charge of contempt of court through an affidavit, the authorities are of the opinion that he should be pardoned.

President's Counsel Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said that to ensure the transparency of the process, the advice of the Atto ey General and the report of the Commissioner General of Prisons were obtained and after considering all matters, it was recommended that conditional pardon be appropriate.

Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said that since the former member of parliament, Mr. Ramanayake has served a considerable number of years in prison, he should be considered for presidential pardon.
He further mentioned that the President will decide on Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake's civic rights.
