Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today (08) rejected a request by former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's lawyer to release the nearly two crore rupees found by the activists who went to the Presidential Palace during the struggle.
According to Section 431 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, it is the responsibility of the court to make an inquiry before making an order regarding the money, stating that this can be investigated under the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the Bribery Act.
The magistrate also informed that the investigation regarding this money has not yet been completed and there is no possibility of releasing the money even if someone else does not claim the money in question.
