Mr. Shammi Silva was elected unopposed as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for the third time.

Accordingly, he mentioned that as the new president, he will focus on hosting and winning the World Cup.

He also emphasized the need for additional stadiums for this purpose.

This will strengthen Sri Lanka's chances of getting another World Cup hosting opportunity.

His aim is to resume the suspended Diyagama stadium project for this purpose.

He mentioned that Diyagama tried to build a new stadium in anticipation of hosting the 2026 World Cup.

But he further said that some people canceled the plans made for it.

He also said that if Sri Lanka had 5 inte ational cricket stadiums, SL would be the host.
