The Ministry of Transport is planning to introduce an electronic card or QR code payment system for Sri Lanka Transport Board (CTB) buses.
Transport Minister Mr. Bandula Gunawardena told the Parliament that the project is currently in its final stage.
The Minister also revealed that some bus drivers or conductors do not retu the total ea ings of the day to the respective depots, causing a loss of one lakh rupees per day.
The minister further said that the payment method with an electronic card or QR code will be introduced in about two months.
Commenting further, the minister said that after the introduction of the relevant project in the next 2 months, the Ceylon Transport Board will avoid the daily loss of about one crore rupees.
This initiative is also part of the gove ment's digitization program announced in November 2023 for Sri Langama, which is scheduled to be implemented in 2024.
