The Gove ment Medical Officers Association says that it has decided to engage in a island wide strike from 8.00 am tomorrow (24).
The union said that it was protesting against the addition of 35,000 rupees allowance (DAT) to the January salary.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena mentioned that the payment of attendance allowance (DAT) of doctors has been temporarily suspended.
This is due to the fact that although the necessary arrangements have been made for the payment of the allowance, the Treasury has not provided funds within the approved allocation limit.
Accordingly, the Director General of Health Services has further stated that the Secretary of Health has informed him to temporarily suspend the payment of the increased amount of 35,000 rupees until this problem is resolved from the treasury.
