The Department of Meteorology says in a statement that further development of the rain conditions in the island is expected.

It is due to the low pressure zone in the southeast Bay of Bengal.

It also said that rain or thundershowers will occur from time to time in the northe , north-central and easte provinces.

In the Easte Province, Polonnaruwa and Mullativu districts, heavy rains of about 100 mm may also occur in some places.

After 1.00 pm in the rest of the island there will be scattered showers or thunderstorms.

In Weste and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, there may be some heavy rains of about 75 mm.

It also states that there may be rain in the mo ing in the southe province.

People are kindly requested to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thunderstorms.
