Somerset photographer Josh Dury expressed his immense pride in having his photo of the Perseid meteor shower, captured over Stonehenge, selected as NASA's astronomy picture of the day.
The photo features the Perseid meteor shower streaking through the sky and the Milky Way galaxy's central band running nearly vertically through the center.
Dury described the recognition as a significant honor in the field of astronomy. He previously won the Historic Photographer of the Year Award in 2023 and noted the positive response since NASA shared his image.
The Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August, with the best viewing opportunities on Monday and Tuesday nights under clear skies.
