Industry and Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana says that Sri Lanka is facing a big threat in terms of non-communicable diseases.
Accordingly, the minister said that more than 20% of the country's population is suffering from diabetes and Sri Lanka has been identified as the country with the highest number of people over 35 years of age in the South Asian region.
It was mentioned that the complications related to high blood pressure include many diseases such as heart disease, stroke and also because of a country with a rapidly aging population, many diseases such as memory impairment, eye diseases and bone diseases are developing.
Therefore, the Minister further stated that provision has been made to implement many programs focusing on non-communicable diseases.
