State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that as the first phase of the 10,000 rupees salary increase proposed by the 2024 budget, the treasury released the money related to the 5,000 rupees allowance.
The minister points out that currently about 95 billion rupees are being spent on gove ment employee salaries.
The state minister also mentioned that the money will increase by another 7 billion rupees from January and after the proposed 10,000 rupees salary increase from April, the gove ment will spend an additional 14 billion rupees.
He further said that in a situation where money printing and borrowing has stopped, the relevant amount should be saved only through cost management.
