Professor Udaya Ralapanawa, a specialist in physical diseases at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, says that one out of every four of the elderly population in this country suffers from high blood pressure.
Accordingly, the professor mentioned that the number of deaths due to high blood pressure is increasing at present.
It was also mentioned that this condition is more common in middle-aged people in South Asian countries and the social and economic problems such as the current economic recession in Sri Lanka since the time of the Covid disaster have also contributed to the rise of this condition.
The professor wa ed that because high blood pressure does not show any symptoms, it gives a person a silent death.
Mr. Udaya Ralapanawa also mentioned that very rarely severe headaches and dizziness can occur when this condition is aggravated.
