35 Dead, 43 Injured as Car Drives into Crowd in China

A tragic incident occurred in southe China when a 62-year-old driver, identified only by his last name, Fan, allegedly drove his vehicle into a crowd outside Zhuhai Sports Center, killing 35 people and injuring 43 others.

According to local police, Fan was detained at the scene late Monday (11) after reportedly harming himself with a knife in his car. He is currently in a coma and unable to be questioned.

Preliminary investigations suggest Fan’s actions were motivated by dissatisfaction with a property division following his divorce. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for Fan to be “severely punished in accordance with the law,” state media outlet Xinhua reported.

This 'serious and vicious' incident unfolded just ahead of the Zhuhai airshow, China’s largest aerospace trade expo. Authorities have dispatched a central gove ment team to oversee response efforts. All injured victims are reportedly in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
