Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has requested that all private and banking sector employees be granted the necessary leave to cast their votes in tomorrow’s (14) general election.
Speaking to media, Ratnayake emphasized the importance of enabling all citizens to exercise their sovereign right to vote, including high school students voting for the first time.
He urged private sector organizations to accommodate voting leave, particularly for those needing to travel long distances. Teachers of high school support classes were also called upon to ensure their students have the opportunity to vote, as 331,000 youth aged 18 and above are eligible voters this year.
“It’s their right. Give them the opportunity,” he stressed.
