The International Monetary Fund says that the government has planned to introduce a property tax from the first quarter of 2027.
The IMF is reported to have informed about this in its staff report on Sri Lanka published recently.
The preliminary steps required to impose this new property tax have already been initiated.
A digital database is to be created for property valuation and tax calculation, and all the relevant data is to be prepared and finalized before the end of 2026.
