Free solar panels for low income earners



It is reported that a process of providing free solar panels to 25,000 low-income families will be implemented once the cabinet approves.

Commenting on this, Urban Development and Housing Minister Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga said, 500 megawatt of renewable energy will be added to the national grid.

The first step of this project is going to be started under 2 phases.
1) Electrification of 10,000 houses through solar panels.
2) Electrification of 15,000 houses through solar panels.

To implement this, an amount of 2.5 million rupees is to be allocated for one house.

Accordingly, it is planned to start this project by merging with the United Arab Emirates and Australian companies.

The investor will carry out the maintenance work for the solar panels installed in this way for a period of 20 years.

It is stated that for the first 7 years of this project, an amount of US$ 0.116 per unit of electricity will be paid to the investor.

After that, for the remaining 13 years, an amount of US$ 0.0816 per unit of electricity is to be paid.
