Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi was declared dead on Monday(21)after the helicopter he was traveling crashed in a mountainous area of Iran's East Azerbaijan province Sunday(20).
Although some celebrated his death on social media, countless Iranians have gathered on the streets of Tabriz waving Iranian flags and portraits of the late president to join the funeral procession of President Raisi.
From Tabriz, President Raisi's body will be flown to Qom.
Qom is considered the second most sacred city in Iran after Mashhad.
The corpse will then be moved to Iran's capital, Tehran for processions, today.
President Ebrahim Raisi's body is then expected to be buried in his birthplace, Mashhad, tommorow (23).
President Raisi was a hardline and religiously conservative politician who had a profound connection in the judiciary and religious elite in Iran.
He was regarded as the natural successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the highest authority in Iran.
