The Sri Lanka Medical Association says that a disease called melioidosis or soil fever is spreading.
The association said that this fever is caused by a bacteria that spreads through water and soil with the current rainy weather.
They also point out that this disease can be fatal.
Doctors point out that this bacteria is ingested through wounds on the feet, drinking dirty water and smelling it.
Accordingly, the association said in a press conference that people who have this fever can develop pneumonia, pus cysts in the lungs, liver or spleen, infections in the joints, and pus cysts in the brain.
The association informs the people to protect themselves from this disease by wearing foot coverings and drinking clean water especially during rainy season.
