The Cabinet has approved the immediate introduction of a new digital driving license to replace the current system.
While the transition is underway, the existing method of issuing smart card licenses, introduced nearly 15 years ago, will continue.
The Gove ment Information Department stated that the new digital driving license aligns with global technological advancements and will enable better data exchange between relevant institutions.
This decision follows proposals submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation. The digital license is expected to be implemented soon, marking a significant step toward mode izing Sri Lanka's transport systems.
