The case filed in Singapore seeking compensation for damages caused by the X-Press Pearl ship disaster is scheduled to be called for the first time today.
Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa says that this case will be called in the Singapore High Court.
A Singapore law firm will represent Sri Lanka for this case.
The Atto ey General's Department of Sri Lanka announced on April 26 that a lawsuit has been filed in a court of Singapore seeking compensation for the damage caused by the X-Press Pearl disaster in Sri Lankan waters.
He added that the court will be informed about the compensation amount in the future.
He mentioned that a detailed report has been called from the Marine Environment Protection Authority for the compensation request.
The X-Press Pearl incident is the worst maritime disaster to hit Sri Lanka.
It has had a significant impact on Sri Lanka's sensitive coastal environment, local communities and economy.
