A warning about the use of antibiotics without a doctor's prescription

Dr. Deepal Perera, Pediatrician at Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) says that using antibiotics without a doctor's prescription can kill the bacteria needed to survive in the body and create resistant bacteria in the body.

Due to that, the doctor mentioned that everyone may die in about 50 years due to the diseases spreading throughout the society.

Commenting on the 'World Antibiotic Awareness Week' which will be held from November 18 to 24, the doctor further said that this has been found through research by the world's antibiotic experts.

The doctor points out that antibiotics weaken and destroy bacteria, and in case of overdose, beneficial bacteria are also destroyed.

He urges parents not to give antibiotics to their children unnecessarily except when necessary.

Antibiotics should be used only when necessary for bacterial infections, and doctors make these recommendations based on many factors, including the age and weight of the person conce ed.
