The Inspector General of Police has issued a circular prohibiting police officers from conducting training sessions, lectures or seminars that treat the LGBTIQ community inhumanely and discriminate against them.
That's because of the ever-increasing abuse, harassment and discrimination against people in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community.
Challenging these incident, several civil society activists had filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal.
The case has been settled by contacting all the senior police officers of the Sri Lanka Police and agreeing to issue a circular by the Inspector General.
