A fatal accident occurred when a van driving from Anuradhapura toward Padeniya hit a pedestrian crossing the road.

This happened at the junction of the Anuradhapura-Padeniya road in the Mahawa police division.

After receiving serious injuries in the accident, the pedestrian passed away at the Ambanpola Hospital.

The deceased is a 71-year-old resident of the Kaddehuwa Ambanpola area.

The police stated that the driver of the van has been arrested in connection with the accident.
