Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake, announced that details of amendments to the agreement with the Inte ational Monetary Fund (IMF) will be disclosed in the upcoming budget.
Speaking during the debate on the gove ment's policy statement, Rathnayake emphasized the necessity of adhering to the IMF framework for the next three years while making necessary modifications. 'Yes, amendments have been made. We have discussed with them and submitted amendments. The people of the country can know the details of those amendments through the budget,' he stated.
Rathnayake also criticized former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for claiming the gove ment misled the public on VAT reductions. 'Taxes can only be reduced through an Act of Parliament. The first plan will be implemented with the budget,' he added, reiterating that VAT reductions will be addressed in alignment with parliamentary procedures.
