The Japan Meteorological Agency officially declared the sakura season yesterday (24).

The official start of the sakura season is the blossoming of the plant at the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

The sakura blossoms can be observed in greater numbers in the last few days of March and into April.

Foreign media reported that this marks the beginning of spring in Japan.

The Japanese people also consider the blossoming of a sakura tree to be a sign of prosperity.
