A youth has died in an accident that occurred when a boat capsized in the Palakudawa lagoon.

Police said that the deceased in the accident is a 22-year-old resident of the Palakudawa area.

The accident occurred while he was going to repair and inspect a boat engine that had suffered a technical fault.

The youth who drowned in the lagoon due to the accident was rescued by the residents of the area and admitted to the Kalpitiya Hospital for treatment, where he is reported to have died.
