A passenger train (1007) traveling from Colombo Fort to Badulla has derailed near the Penrose railway station, between the Nawalapitiya Iguruoya and Sahagalabada railway stations.
The incident, which occurred a few moments ago, has led to disruptions in upcountry train services. According to the Nawalapitiya Railway Control Room, trains running from Badulla to Colombo will now terminate at Hatton Railway Station until the derailed train is cleared.
Additionally, trains operating from Colombo and Kandy to Badulla will be redirected to Nawalapitiya Railway Station.
Railway authorities are working to resolve the situation.
