The counting of postal votes has already commenced at counting centers as polling for the 2024 parliamentary election concluded at 4 pm today (November 14).

Voting began at 7 am across 13,421 stations islandwide, with 17,140,354 eligible voters listed in the 2024 voter register.

The Election Commission reported that the election process was largely peaceful. After polling, ballot boxes are being transported to 2,034 counting centers established nationwide, with approximately 80,000 officials assigned for vote counting.

Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that the first official results are expected to be announced by 10 pm tonight.
