A warning about the threat of malaria

The health authorities have once again wa ed about the threat of malaria.

That is due to the encounter of the main malaria carrier mosquito in the areas belonging to 6 other Medical Officer of Health offices, including the Northe and Easte provinces.

Those 6 areas are.,
1) Jaffna
2) Point Pedro
3) Akkaraipattu
4) Thirukkovil
5) Ampara - Alayadiwembu
6) Ampara - Addalaichenai

It is special to identify malaria mosquitoes like this two months after the World Health Organization declared Sri Lanka as a malaria-free country in 2016.

It is further stated that this species of malaria belongs to Anopheles Stephensi.

Accordingly, this was revealed as a result of an entomological test conducted by the Ministry of Health's anti-malaria campaign from December 2016 to September 2017.

In 2016, this malaria species was identified from Mannaram and then from Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts in the Northe Province.

But it is reported that a vector control measure has been taken in this regard as the species of malaria had been removed from these areas before.
