The State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Gove ment says that they informed all the local gove ment authorities to give priority to dengue control.
Accordingly, the Minister of State, Mr. Janaka Vakkambura, has called the provincial gove ors, local gove ment commissioners, municipal council commissioners and local council secretaries and given these instructions.
It is said that he has pointed out the need for common people to be actively involved in the dengue control program.
Meanwhile, the number of dengue-affected children admitted to Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital is increasing, its director Dr. G. Wijesuriya says.
He mentioned that 43 children who contracted the disease are currently being treated in the hospital.
The National Dengue Control Unit states that 57 health medical officer divisions in 06 districts of the island are still in a high risk state of dengue.
So far, the number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka is 34,801.
The largest number of dengue patients have been reported from the Weste Province.
