The state of Victoria has announced that it cannot spend $7 billion on the 2026 Australian Commonwealth Games.
Accordingly, they are going to officially withdraw from its hosting.
The Games were planned to be held for 12 days.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the cost of hosting the Games had previously been estimated at $2.6 billion.
He said that he is not ready to spend the amount due to the fact that the estimated amount has increased so far.
In addition, he noted that the amount will be channeled towards the development of local housing and sports infrastructure.
