The Cabinet has approved a proposal to draft a Local Gove ment Institution Elections Bill that will cancel nominations called for the 2023 Local Gove ment Elections and allow new nominations to be submitted.
This decision follows an agreement reached at a party leaders' meeting in Parliament on November 25, chaired by the Speaker and attended by leaders of recognized political parties. During the meeting, it was agreed that the 2023 nominations should be annulled to pave the way for fresh nominations for the upcoming elections.
The proposal, submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Gove ment, empowers the Election Commission to withdraw the existing nominations and initiate the process for new submissions. The Legal Draftsman has been instructed to prepare the draft bill accordingly.
