The Essential Food Importers Association has stated that reducing the duty on imported rice by Rs. 15 could enable rice to be sold at the maximum retail price.
According to Nihal Seneviratne, the association's media spokesperson, the price of imported Nadu rice could be brought down to approximately Rs. 220 per kilo if the duty is reduced.
Seneviratne also mentioned that once the rice reaches the wholesale market, the distribution network would incur an additional cost of 8 to 10 percent per kilo.
