The Constitutional Council is scheduled to meet in Parliament today (22) to decide on the appointment of a new Auditor General.
It is reported that several names, including Senior Deputy Auditor General Dharmapala Gammanpila, the most senior official of the National Audit Office, have been submitted for this position.
It is stated that it is the tradition so far to give priority to the most qualified officer serving in the National Audit Office for the vacant position of Auditor General.
Trade unions stated that appointing an outsider to the position could undermine the public's trust in the gove ment.
