A woman has died after being struck by a jeep carrying All Ceylon Tamil Congress Jaffna District MP Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam.

The accident occurred at the Bolawatta Junction on the Puttalam-Colombo road while the MP was retu ing to Jaffna from Colombo yesterday (08).

Police identified the victim as a beggar, aged between 65 and 70, who was crossing the road at the time of the incident.

The driver of the jeep, a 60-year-old resident of Hunnasgiriya, was arrested by Wennappuwa Police and later released on bail after being presented in court.
