Elon Musk's social media platform X has filed a lawsuit against a global advertising alliance and several major companies, including Mars and CVS Health, accusing them of unlawfully conspiring to boycott the platform, resulting in significant revenue losses.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Texas, targets the World Federation of Advertisers, Unilever, Danish renewable energy company Orsted, Mars, and CVS Health, alleging they collectively withheld billions in advertising revenue in violation of US antitrust law. X's CEO Linda Yaccarino stated the lawsuit aims to protect the marketplace of ideas, while Musk declared 'war' on the advertisers via a tweet, citing frustration over the lack of cooperation over the past two years.
The Global Alliance for Responsible Media, initiated by the World Federation of Advertisers in 2019, seeks to address the challenge of harmful content on digital media platforms.
