Charles Michel has said that he will soon leave the position of President of the European Council.
He has further mentioned that he will leave so that he can appear as a member of the European Parliament
Foreign media also say that the European Parliament elections are scheduled to be held in June.
The next European Council president will have to be elected by a majority of the EU's 27 leaders after the departure of Charles Michel, according to reports.
If a successor is not found in time, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will temporarily hold the position, it said.
Charles Michel, has served as the head of the Council of Europe, the group of heads of state of the 27 EU member states, since late 2019, and before taking up the post, he was also the prime minister of Belgium.
