The initial results of Sri Lanka's 2024 parliamentary elections are expected by 10 p.m. tonight, according to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake.
Voting began at 7 a.m. today across 13,314 polling centers and will conclude at 4 p.m.
Postal vote counting is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., with the overall counting pace dependent on the efficiency of each center.
This year’s election features 8,888 candidates competing for seats, with 17,140,354 voters eligible to participate. However, officials have cautioned that evening weather may affect certain aspects of the process.
