Sealand, the world's smallest country, is located in the North Sea about 6.5 miles off the coast of Suffolk, England.
According to the census conducted in 2002, its population is stated as 27.
Sealand is an old beach platform built in 1942 to protect the beach from German bombers during World War II.
In 1967, Roy Bates, a former British Army major, bought Sealand and declared it an independent sovereign state.
He is said to have later named himself Prince Roy of Sealand and issued his own passports and stamps.
Sealand's status as a sovereign state is disputed and the United Kingdom does not recognize Sealand as a country or even as a nation.
