The National Dengue Control Unit wa s that the number of dengue cases may increase with the current rainy weather.
Accordingly, the unit points out that 60% of schools in Sri Lanka have dengue mosquito larvae breeding sites.
Mr. Sathira Marasinghe, entomologist of the National Dengue Control Unit stated that 65% of such mosquito larvae breeding places were found in Colombo district schools and 65-70% of Gampaha district schools.
He urges the people to pay special attention to destroy places where dengue mosquito larvae can breed near schools.
He further mentioned that more than 70% of public institutions, private institutions and religious places were found to be breeding places for dengue mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, the National Dengue Control Unit has released a data sheet about dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka as of today (17).
