Japan changes sex crime laws

Japan has passed laws redefining the word 'rape'.

Accordingly, the word has been expanded from 'forced sexual intercourse' to 'irregular sexual intercourse'.

Apart from this, many unique reforms were also made in the existing laws regarding the age limit of the victims and the place where the abuse takes.

According to the reforms, the age limit has been raised from 13 years to 16 years.

Commenting on this, commentators noted that these new sex crime laws are consistent with laws in other countries.
