The Department of Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resources Management says that legal provisions will be brought to enable an annual fine to be levied for unauthorized construction on the country's coastline.

Its Director General, Dr. Turney Pradeep Kumara, stated that an annual permit is also planned to be issued for such unauthorized construction.

He further stated that one of the objectives of the program is to prevent damage to the coastal protected area by demolishing unauthorized constructions in the protected zone around the coast.
