An Italian jou alist, Giulia Cortese, has been ordered to pay Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni €5,000 in damages for defamatory tweets mocking Meloni's height.
Cortese received a suspended fine of €1,200 and criticized the gove ment's stance on freedom of expression.
The clash began in 2021 when Cortese posted a doctored image of Meloni, which she later removed, and continued with tweets calling Meloni a 'little woman.'
Meloni's lawyer stated that any awarded money would go to charity. Cortese condemned the ruling, likening Italy's situation to Hungary under Viktor Orbán.
