Jaffna District Independent MP Dr. Ramanathan Archuna has accused a person named Sujith of assaulting him at the Opposition Leader's office in Parliament today (December 3).
In a statement made in Parliament, Dr. Archuna explained that he visited the office around 2:30 PM to inquire about his time allocation for the day, as he had not received any prior communication. He was directed to another room where he was told his time would be scheduled for tomorrow at around 4 PM.
When he questioned the arrangement, he was advised to speak with Sujith and another person to finalize the details. Dr. Archuna claimed that when he insisted on having the matter settled by those in charge, Sujith physically assaulted him.
'I did not want to retaliate, as he is my father's age,' Dr. Archuna stated.
This incident follows a controversial moment during the inaugural session of Parliament when MP Archuna sat in the Opposition Leader's seat, for which he later apologized at an awareness workshop for new MPs on November 25.
