Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has accused the gove ment of using the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to suppress the media, despite its earlier promises to repeal the act.
Speaking in Parliament today (December 3), Premadasa highlighted that social media played a significant role in helping the gove ment secure a strong mandate. However, he alleged that the same gove ment is now targeting social media activists under the PTA.
'Is it fair to engage in a media hunt using the Prevention of Terrorism Act? You received great support from the social media sector in obtaining such a large mandate. But now, these social media activists are being hunted using the very act you promised to repeal,' Premadasa stated, urging the gove ment to cease such actions.
