The Ministry of Energy says that it has planned to increase the capacity of the Sapugaskanda fuel refinery.

Minister Kumara Jayakody stated that a new refinery will be constructed at the site.

He stated that it will be able to refine 120,000 barrels per day.

The minister further stated that the Sapugaskanda refinery is currently capable of refining 40,000 barrels per day.

He also stated that Cabinet approval has been sought for the construction of the new refinery.
