The Inte ational Football Confederation and the Asian Football Confederation have decided to include Sri Lanka in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on strict terms.

That is on the condition of conducting the official election at least 10 days before the opening match of the Sri Lanka Football Federation qualifiers.
 
FIFA suspended the Sri Lanka Football Federation with effect from 21st January and hence Sri Lanka is now ineligible to participate in any match organized by FIFA.

However, Sri Lanka is scheduled to join the World Cup qualifiers on October 12.
 
But if the conditions are not met, Sri Lanka will not be able to play the qualifying matches.
 
The official update in this regard has been sent to its committee.
