Sri Lanka cheerleader ‘Uncle Percy’ passes away



Percy Abeysekera, the captain of Sri Lanka's cheer squad, who is known as 'Uncle Percy' by cricket fans around the world, has passed away.

He celebrated his 87th birthday in August this year, but had been ill for the past few years.

Last September, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) provided Rs 5 million to support Percy Abeysekera's well-being and maintain good health.

Uncle Percy is known as the longest supporter of the Sri Lankan cricket team and he hoisted the Sri Lankan flag in support of the team since the 1979 World Cup.
