Today (09) is the International Day of the World's Indigenous People.
It is reported that this day has been named the International Day of the World's Indigenous People every year at the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Peoples held in Geneva in 1982.
It is estimated that 476 million indigenous peoples live across 90 countries in the world.
It is reported that they make up less than 6% of the world's population but represent at least 15% of the poorest people.
